“Mighty River Keepers: Freshwater Mussels” will cover what native freshwater mussels are and what they do in an environment, a short history of how they were used by indigenous people, and invasive mussels and their impact on aquatic ecosystems. Examples of common area mussels will be available to see up close.
There will also be a discussion about the Grasse River project that is being conducted by the Department of Environmental Conservation, the New York State Museum, and the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe Environment Division.
The free program is open to the public.
