OGDENSBURG -- The Ogdensburg Flotilla of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary’s June “About Boating Safely” boating safety certification courses will be held June 1 in Ogdensburg, June 22 in Gouverneur, and June 29 in Lisbon.

Each session will be held from 8 a.m. from 4 p.m., on Saturday, June 1 at the United Helpers Mosaic Center, 100 Ford St. Ogdensburg, Saturday, June 22 in Gouverneur (call for location), and Saturday, June 29 at the Lisbon Town Campground, 9975 NY Route 37.

Cost is $35 per person with family rates available. For more info or to preregister, call the Ogdensburg Auxiliary at 315-605-8041 or Gardner Furniture and Flooring at 315-393-6488.

Instructors are local Auxiliary members with years of experience teaching boating safety. Get all your questions answered about boating safely in the North Country. Check out safety equipment and receive the course text book and Federal and State rule books to keep as references. The “About Boating Safely” certificate and card are awarded at the end of the day and are valid in New York State and all other states, and easily replaced if lost or damaged.

New York State requires all personal watercraft (i.e. jet ski) operators, who must be 14 years of age or older, and motor boat operators born on or after May 1, 1996 and who are at least 10 years of age, to complete a certified boating safety course.

The Coast Guard Auxiliary is the uniformed civilian component of the U.S. Coast Guard and supports the Coast Guard in nearly all mission areas. The Auxiliary was created by Congress in 1939. More info: www.cgaux.org
