Renowned jazz guitarist John 'Bucky' Pizzarelli to perform in Potsdam March 24

POTSDAM – The Community Performance Series presents renowned jazz guitarist John "Bucky" Pizzarelli & Friends Thursday, March 24 at 7:30 p.m. in Hosmer Concert Hall at SUNY Potsdam.

Pizzarelli will perform in the master swing style with jazz musicians Russ Kassoff on piano, Ken Peplowski on clarinet and saxophone, Jay Leonhart on bass and Dennis Mackrel on percussion.

All are veteran musicians and virtuosos on their instruments and have worldwide experience performing swing jazz. The band will perform American swing jazz, from the 1920s forward.

Pizzarelli’s career began with Vaughn Monroe and Benny Goodman. He was as a featured soloist and member of the Tonight Show Band in with Johnny Carson.

He was a staff musician with NBC and ABC, and appeared with Les Paul and George Barnes at Carnegie Hall. He has also performed at the White House alongside such greats as Goodman, Claude "Fiddler" Williams and Frank Sinatra.

Pizzarelli has recorded his own solo albums, as well as with musicians such as Eddie Daniels, Zoot Sims, Joe Venuti, Bud Freeman, Slam Stewart, Butch Miles, John Bunch, Stephane Grappelli and his son, previous CPS guest artist John Pizzarelli.

A free pre-concert lecture will be given by Kassoff, a Crane School of Music alumnus, at 6:30 p.m.
