POTSDAM -- Boys and girls ages 11 to 15 who would like to start their own babysitting business may enroll in the American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training Program 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 25 at the Northern New York Red Cross office, 73 Market St., Potsdam.
Red Cross Babysitter’s Training Program teaches the skills to be a safe babysitter and smart business owner. Enrollees learn skills such as how to tell when there is an emergency and when it’s a situation the student can confidently handle.
Authorized Red Cross Babysitter Training Instructor Ellen MacMaster will teach babysitting skills such as:
• Perform first aid and get professional medical help fast.
• Identify common safety hazards and prevent injuries.
• Make good responsible decisions.
• Supervise infants through school age children.
• Choose safe and age appropriate toys and games.
• Perform basic care routines like diapering, feeding and dressing.
There are also tips on how to run a babysitting business. The program will show how to create a resume, interview with prospective parents and keep track of clients.
The cost is $85. Registration and pre-payment are required by July 23. Participants should bring a bag lunch and a Cabbage Patch size doll.
