POTSDAM – In celebration of the church bicentennial, First Presbyterian Church is presenting a “double feature” quilt show open to the public from 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 16 and noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 17.
The free show will include antiques, a “reunion” of baby quilts the Ladies’ Guild has presented to the youngest church members, wall hangings, bed quilts and liturgical hangings.
The exhibit will open at 2 p.m. Oct. 16 with the program “Blest Be the Tie That Binds,” sponsored by the Ladies’ Guild and the St. Lawrence River Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. The recital and exhibit will feature local quilters talking about their creations that will be on display. Local organists who are also quilters will demonstrate the “colors” of the pipe organ, pairing hymn-based music with each quilt. The bicentennial quilt of the church will be unveiled for the first time at the end of the program.
A “high tea” will be served both days with gourmet desserts by the slice and beverage for a $5 donation to benefit the church roof renovation.
