Public hearing on recommended additions to St. Law. County Ag and Farmland Protection District 2 April 13

CANTON -- St. Lawrence County has scheduled a public hearing via Zoom to give the public the opportunity to comment on the Agricultural and Farmland Protection Board’s recommended additions to Agricultural District 2.

The public hearing will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 13. Persons who are interested in attending the online public hearing can email mlarson@stlawco.org to request the meeting ID and password.

This spring, the County received requests to add 15 parcels to Ag District 2 that totals nearly 1,093 acres. These parcels are located in the towns of Brasher, Canton, Hopkinton, Lisbon, Massena, Pierrepont, Potsdam, Russell and Waddington.

When examining each requested addition, the County’s Ag and Farmland Protection Board reviewed a parcel’s existing use; satellite and street view imagery; if the land contains prime soils; whether the land receives an agricultural exemption; and whether the agricultural use is consistent with local land use regulations.

Lands that are recommended for inclusion have either satisfied, or are exempt from the criteria. At its meeting on April 1, the Ag and Farmland Protection Board recommended the County Board of Legislators to accept 13 parcels to Ag District 2.

Maps depicting the locations of the requested additions were emailed to the municipal clerk of each town where the parcels are located. Digital copies of these maps can also be obtained by emailing mlarson@stlawco.org.

Those who cannot attend the public hearing online can email written comments by close of business on Tuesday, April 13 to mlarson@stlawco.org.
