The Potsdam Chamber of Commerce has planned three separate virtual events for the month of December.

Starting Dec. 1, the Chamber will run its 12 Days of Potsdam Giveaway for the third consecutive year.

The giveaway will take place solely on Facebook and Instagram.

Local businesses will sponsor giveaway items that represent their stores, restaurants and services.

These businesses include: Barking Dog Saloon, Big Spoon Kitchen, Brick and Mortar Music, Jernabi Coffeehouse, North Country Children’s Museum, St. Larry’s Bar and Grill, Summerhaven, The Body Shop, Treasures Cove and the Village Diner.

To enter, look for updates on the Potsdam Chamber’s social media pages.

“We have incredible prizes again this year. Despite the pandemic, and all that it has put them through, our businesses continue to show up for and give back to their community. It’s just another example of why shopping local is so important. Maybe even more this year than ever.” said Kurstin Stowell, executive director.

The chamber has also issued an online petition, named “I Pledge to #BelieveinPotsdam This Holiday Season.”

The pledge explains ways to support local businesses in Potsdam and encourages people to digitally sign. Signing the form is a way to display their commitment to Potsdam during the end of 2020.

“My greatest hope for this pledge is that it educates our community on all of the options that they have when it comes to supporting local. It’s not always going into a store and buying something, though we encourage that. It’s also takeout, gift certificates, reviews, select online ordering, recommendations, and so much more.” said Stowell.

When it comes to community, the chamber has planned an event that they hope can bring everyone together in a sense. Potsdam Town Wide Ugly Sweater Day will return for the second year on Dec. 16.

The chamber asks everyone join together by simply wearing a tacky sweater. People may post photos on Facebook or Instagram with the #PotsdamUglySweater, or just keep watch for others dressed in unusual sweaters that day.

Finally, the chamber will feature for the first time video footage of the downtown trees being lit on Nov. 30 at sunset. The video can be viewed on the chamber’s Facebook page.

“The trees are lit each year by the Village of Potsdam Department of Works,” said Stowell. “You may notice them as you drive down Market or Main Street between late November through the Spring. They bring a little more spirit to our dark winters and we really wanted to highlight the work the village does, while creating a fun tree lighting experience.”

The chamber teamed up with the Potsdam Public Library who will be creating the video footage.

The library is utilizing different recording technology and viewers will have a chance to see the process from all angles.
