POTSDAM -- All ages are invited to an hour-long planetarium show presented by Norwood astronomer Bruce McClure at 8 p.m. Friday, April 13 in the SUNY Potsdam planetarium in Stowell Hall.
Those attending will learn about the Big Dipper, Orion the Hunter, Polaris, the North Star and Sirius, the brightest star of the nighttime sky. Also featured will be Jupiter, Venus, Mars and Saturn that are viewable at nightfall outdoors through April.
If weather permits, the stargazing will move to Reynolds Astronomical Observatory, starting around 9 p.m. where enthusiasts will view planets, binary stars, star clusters, nebulae and galaxies outside the Milky Way. Those attending should bring binoculars and a lawn chair.
To reach Reynolds Observatory, travel one mile east of the village on Hwy 11B, turn left onto Hatch Road by the Potsdam Airport and travel about one-half mile until reaching a sharp bend in the road. Park outside the gate near the observatory sign and walk in the gate.
