Peaceful Black Lives Matter Support March planned Monday night in Ogdensburg

OGDENSBURG — A peaceful Black Lives Matter Support March will be held Monday night beginning at 6 p.m.

“We are organizing this march through Ogdensburg to peacefully support Black Lives Matter and stand by our African-American neighbors during these trying times,” said event organizer Paul Lawrence.

The march will start in the municipal parking lot loacted at the corner of Washington and State streets, proceed to Ford Street and down Paterson Street where marchers will turn on to Lafayette Street. From Lafayette Street, marchers will proceed back to the starting point.

Although the parking lot is near Northern Physical Therapy, the business is in no way affiliated with the march..

“We truly want to show our community members, our children, and those around the world that we do not live in a bubble in the North Country and that we care deeply about the racial injustices consistently being done across our country,” Lawrence said.

Lawrence said organizers are asking people to be respectful of social distancing and wear face masks at all times during the march.

People are encouraged to make signs, t-shirts, participate in chants to shout while we march, and anything else peaceful that they can think of and include, he said.

“There is no need to wait for a leader to guide you to start, and it’s as simple as the clock hitting 6 p.m. and we will all start walking through the streets on this route that has been provided,” Lawrence said.
