CANTON - "Songs from the Silent Voice," a monologue created by Nina Noren, will be performed Saturday, March 5, at 8 p.m. in the Blackbox Theatre in the Griffiths Arts Center at St. Lawrence University. The event is open to the public, free of charge.
Noren created the piece following an episode in 1999 that resulted in her institutionalization in a psychiatric ward. In the performance, she recreates her experiences of suffering from mental illness, the so-called "nursing" she was exposed to and her journey to recovery.
The story unfolds through text, movements, music, singing and pictures in order for it to be interpreted on many different levels.
