North Country teachers invited to 'Next Generation' science workshop in Canton

CANTON -- All K-12 teachers in the North Country are invited to a hands-on, CTLE approved workshop to learn to use place-based, local citizen science projects to meet Next Generation science standards at St. Lawrence University on March 22 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.

Staff from Nature Up North will cover outdoor teaching as a way to motivate students and teach science standards at the workshop at the Johnson Hall of Science, room 112.

Attendees will learn about the Nature Up North program, teacher resources, and local citizen science projects that can be carried out right on your school’s grounds.

If you have previously worked with Nature Up North, there will be more advanced workshops on using data from the Citizen Science projects in the classroom for instruction on creating and interpreting graphs.

There will also be time available for other topics, including a new grant opportunity to compensate teachers for curriculum development, and working on better integrating your classroom needs with our products.

All middle and high school science teachers are invited, along with late-elementary and middle-school ELA teachers wishing to use examples of local scientists as informational texts and for any teachers looking for reliable resources about the local environment.

Registration is available via My Learning Plan. A direct link can be found at www.natureupnorth.org/march-2019-teacher-workshop.

The course is limited to 16 participants, and lunch is provided.
