Norfolk Norwood Minor Hockey Association seeks players, coaches for upcoming season

NORFOLK -- Norfolk Norwood Minor Hockey Association is registering players and seeking coaches for the upcoming winter season.

The association said they have the lowest fees and most guaranteed ice time in the north country.

“We are really looking to get the word out to rescue our arena and minor hockey. If people continue to bring their children outside of our district and hometown, not only will minor hockey dissolve, but so will the arena, figure skating and varsity hockey,” said board member Jade Varney.

A “Learn to Skate” program for first year players wanting to learn the basics of skating and hockey costs $100. All other age groups have programs costing $200. A family rate of $500 is available for families with three or more players.

Players can register by going to the minor hockey association website: https://www.norfolkmha.com/

An in-person registration table will be available Saturday, Sept. 19 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Norwood Harvest Festival in the Norwood Park.

The hockey association is also looking for coaches looking to work with kids to learn about team play, individual skills and having fun.

“You do not have to be a star athlete to coach a hockey team. You just have to have a desire to provide a great experience for a wonderful group of young people,” said the association newsletter. Training is provided and costs are reimbursed. Contact norfolkmha@gmail.com for more information.
