CANTON -- There will be no youth summer recreation program or swimming lessons in Canton this year.
“With the health and safety of residents as our priority, and based on guidance from New York State and information shared among area municipal recreation programs, the Town and Village of Canton Recreation Committee has announced that all summer recreation programs, including swimming lessons, are canceled,” a statement on the village website says.
Bend in the River Park is open for walking and picnicking, Taylor Park remains closed, including the park, beach, playground, and playing fields, village officials said.
“The gate at the Miner Street Road entrance of Taylor Park is locked and public access is prohibited; the park entrance and grounds will be under video surveillance to discourage trespassing,” the statement said.
The joint Recreation Committee and local Boards will monitor the reopening situation with local and state guidance to determine when and how Taylor Park will open. The soonest would be at the time of Phase 4 re-opening of the North Country region.
“Everyone’s patience and understanding are appreciated,” officials said.
