More closures, hours of operations changes and evolving services have been announced by businesses and organizations in St. Lawrence County due to the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) social distancing recommendations.

Rabies clinics

All St. Lawrence County Rabies Clinics scheduled for March and April have been postponed.

This includes: Norwood Fire Department on March 31, Parishville Fire Station on April 16, Lisbon Fire Station on April 22, and Morristown Highway Barn on April 29.

The St. Lawrence County Public Health Department is working closely with each municipality to get the clinics rescheduled. Once new dates and times have been finalized, a notice will go out to the community and the schedule will be updated.

Trinity Episcopal supper

The free 4th Thursday Community Supper at Trinity Episcopal Church in Potsdam will be canceled this month. The church plans to get back on schedule as soon as possible.

Massena foster parenting info session

The Foster Parenting Informational Sessions originally scheduled for March 25, in Massena, and March 26, in Canton, have been postponed until further notice. Fostering Futures of St. Lawrence County will reschedule these sessions at a later date.

Online art contest

Reality Check of St. Lawrence, Jefferson and Lewis Counties is hosting an art contest for youth ages 10-18 for Taking Down Tobacco Day.

Youth may create a piece of art work that highlights the dangers of electronic cigarettes or why you would want to be tobacco-free.

The contest will end by May 1, giving youth plenty of time to design. There will be three different age groups in which winners will be chosen on May 8.

Volunteers needed

The St. Lawrence County Office for the Aging is in critical need of volunteers to assist staff at eight nutrition centers located throughout the county.

Volunteers are needed in Brasher Falls, Canton, DeKalb, Gouverneur, Morristown, Ogdensburg, Potsdam and Star Lake.

Volunteer opportunities include: delivering hot meals to homebound seniors and helping staff with meal preparation at the Nutrition Centers.

Trillium Wellness Center

Trillium Wellness Center, 42 1/2 Elm St., in Potsdam is following health recommendations and suspending all classes, but there will be some class offerings posted on their website, Trillumwellnesscenter.org, in the coming days.

Individuals may still obtain services with healing arts practitioners.

Trillium will reopen when it is safe to do so.

Potsdam Mosque closed temporarily

The Potsdam Mosque is closed for all activities including daily prayers, monthly community gatherings, and the Friday Services until further notice.

They are following recommendations by state and local authorities on social distancing due to the COVID-19 crisis.

Library closures

All St. Lawrence County libraries are now closed until further notice, due to COVID-19.

The libraries are encouraging use of free online resources available through each individual library.

Online registration to obtain a library card for access to free ebooks, audiobooks and magazines from home is available through the North Country Library System’s page. Call, email or message your library’s Facebook page to obtain a library card PIN number to access the free online materials.

Massena Public Library has even started a curbside pickup of books and movies by calling or messaging them on Facebook.
