Massena students can read with Beethoven the therapy dog

MASSENA –Students will have the opportunity to read 1-on-1 to Beethoven the therapy dog at the Massena Public Library during three upcoming sessions.

Sitting and reading to a dog becomes a safe space for many children who have been previously frustrated when struggling to read, said a press release from the library.

In many instances, reading has gone from being a chore that causes anxiety to being something enjoyable, all because of the confidence they gain by reading to therapy dogs, the press release said.

The three free sessions for children 4 to 17 years old and their caregivers are Jan. 29, from 2-4 p.m., Feb. 5, from 10:30 a.m.-noon; and Feb. 14, from 2-4 p.m.

Times slots are broken up into 30 minute sessions.

Registration is required. E-mail vtatro@ncls.org, call 315-769-9914, or stop by the front desk to book a session.

Sessions are limited to one per child per day.
