CANTON -- Market growers are encouraged to take advantage of a workshop on Swede midge, a tiny invasive pest that has been devastating cole crops like broccoli and cabbage since 2010.
The “Swede Midge Intensive” is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 3 at the Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) Learning Farm, Rt. 68.
Christine Hoepting and Julie Kikkert from the Cornell Vegetable Program will present best management practices, demonstrate pheromone traps and provide individual farm consultation. This is a rare opportunity for farmers to work one-on-one with some of the top researchers on cole crops.
Pre-registration is requested; $10 includes lunch and resource materials.
To register or for more information call Paul Hetzler at Cooperative Extension at 379-9192, ext. 232, or email ph59@cornell.edu.
