It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in St. Lawrence County, with many holiday events planned over the next two weeks. Here are some of the concerts, open houses and get-togethers:

FRIDAY, DEC. 9

Music, art and read-alouds

POTSDAM: The Potsdam Public Library hosts the local brass quartet Broad Band and the flute-violin trio Second Act Trio from 2-4 p.m. The Little River Community School Fall Art Show will display artwork in the library’s mezzanine classroom from 4-6 p.m. Snacks and refreshments will be available. A Short Story Read-Aloud Series takes place from 6-8 p.m. with winter and holiday-based short stories read by guest readers including Rose Rivezzi and Todd Moe. Light snacks and warm beverages will be provided.

Welcome Santa parade

WADDINGTON: The first annual Festival of the Trees will be include a Welcome Santa Parade at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Tree Lighting and Meet and Greet with Santa and Mrs. Claus. There will also be performances by Madrid-Waddington Central School’s Stardust and Potsdam Dance Company at the Island Park Pavilion.

Pedal steel concert

MASSENA: Massena musician Tracer James will perform a Pedal Steel Christmas Show at 6 p.m. at the Emmanuel Congregation Church. The show is a benefit for the Java Vet Center which was razed in a fire recently and the owner, Dr. Perez, is planning to rebuild. Admission to the concert is $10 at the door.

Holiday open house

CANTON: A holiday open house will be held at the St. Lawrence County Historical Association, 3 E. Main St. There will be crafts for kids ages 3-12, cookies and cocoa.

Amahl and the Night Visitors

MADRID: Tickets are on sale now for the upcoming performance of Amahl and the Night Visitors presented by The Arts Program of NNY and staged at the Christian Fellowship Center at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 to $15 and can be purchased online at TheArtsProgram.org. Tickets will also be available at the door.

 

SATURDAY, DEC. 10

Holly Jolly Christmas

NORFOLK: Holly Jolly Christmas events Saturday, merry making craft event for kids at 11 a.m. at Hepburn Library of Norfolk. A tree lighting at Norfolk Memorial Park will be at 5:45 p.m. followed by a parade along Main and Bank streets. Santa will be at the library following the parade, as well as carriage rides, cookies and outside the library after the parade. Caroling will begin at 7:30 p.m. A bake sale at the Church of the Visitation and St. Raymond’s will be from 9 a.m. to noon at the Parish Center behind the church on Morris Street.

Holiday book sale, concert

MASSENA: A holiday book sale and Christmas music concert will be from 9:30-1 p.m. at the Massena Public Library. An assortment of books, DVDs and puzzles will be available. At noon, soprano Ellie Prashaw and her piano accompanist Patty Ryan will perform holiday music in the main reading room.

Superhero Saturday

POTSDAM: The North Country Crusaders will be coming to the Children’s Museum, 10 Raymond St., from 1 to 3 p.m. to celebrate the holidays. Come dressed as your favorite superhero (or any character costume) and make holiday decorations with the Crusaders.

Holiday bazaar

CANTON: The Canton United Methodist Church, 41 Court St., will host their annual holiday bazaar from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be holiday decorations, crafts, cold soup in jars, baked goods, pies, a white elephant sale, and knitted items. All soups and baked items are available for takeout purchase only. Masks will be required for unvaccinated.

 Waddington Festival of Trees

WADDINGTON: A tree viewing and silent auction, part if Waddington’s first Festival of the Trees, will be at 7 p.m. in the Old Town Hall, with a candy shop, beverages for purchase ,and provided snacks. Entrance to the event is free, but donations are appreciated.

Amahl and the Night Visitors

Countdown to Christmas

CANTON: Canton Central School’s Booster Club is hosting a craft and vendor show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Christmas cookie sale

LISBON: The First Congregational Church, 9226 Five Mile Road, is hosting its annual Christmas cookie sale from 9 a.m. to noon. Dozens of varieties of homemade Christmas cookies will be available. Cookies will be sold by the pound.

SUNDAY, DEC. 11

Holiday house tours

OGDENSBURG: Six houses will be featured during the Ogdensburg History Museum Historic Houses at the Holidays Tour from 1-4 p.m. The tour starting point is the Ogdensburg History Museum, 206 Ford St. Each location will have cards that attendees can enter into a raffle to win a gift basket. Visit the Ogdensburg History Museum for refreshments from 4-5 p.m. Tickets are $10 for members; non-members pay $15

Visit with Adirondack Santa

POTSDAM: Visit with Adirondack Santa from 1-3 p.m. at the North Country Children’s Museum, 10 Raymond St. For info, visit northcountrychildrensmuseum.org/events

Feast of St. Nicholas

CANTON: For the Feast of Saint Nicholas, the Bishop of Myra will attend Grace Episcopal Church at 9 a.m. to tell the story of the classic tale, “The Night Before Christmas”-- using an updated, Christian version. Kids will also be given a track on the Christian meaning behind the candy cane and receive one as a treat.

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 14

Skate with the Grinch

POTSDAM: A free Skate With The Grinch event is planned at Pine Street Arena from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Admission is free thanks to sponsor Dillon’s Barber Shop. Skate rentals, provided by Potsdam Recreation, are $3.

THURSDAY, DEC. 15

A Christmas Carol

OGDENSBURG: A professional production of Charles Dickens’ classic “A Christmas Carol” takes the stage at George Hall Auditorium at 6:45 p.m., presented by Ogdensburg Command Performances. Actor and playwright Andy Meyers plays curmudgeon-turned-philanthropist Ebenezer Scrooge. FRIDAY, DEC. 17

Holiday pajama party

MASSENA: holiday pajama party with a visit from Santa, movies, and craft projects party will be held from 4-8 p.m. at the New York Power Authority’s Hawkins Point Visitors Center, Massena. Movies will be shown in the visitor center theater. For reservations call 315-764-6679. All children who are pre-registered will receive a special holiday memento. Hanukkah stories and crafts

POTSDAM: Children can learn about the Festival of Lights Holiday when the North Country Children’s Museum, 10 Raymond St., hosts Hanukkah Stories & Crafts from 1-2 p.m. Kids will hear stories, play the dreidel game, and make holiday craftS.

Hanukkah program

OGDENSBURG: The Ogdensburg History Museum, 206 Ford St., (Blevins Building/behind DMV), is hosting a drawing for a gift basket. There will also be a program for Hanukkah, remembering our Jewish Families from noon-1 p.m.

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 21

Glenn Miller Orchestra

MASSENA: The Massena Rotary Club and Hindsight Records of Massena present the World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra in concert at Sacred Heart Church at 6:30 p.m. General admission tickets are $20. Premium seating, including a meet and greet with the orchestra sponsored by SeaComm, is available for just $30. Tickets are available from any Massena Rotarian, at Trinity Catholic School and at Frenchie’s Chevrolet and Frenchie’s Ford in Massena
