POTSDAM — Live music, food, and sidewalk sales will be on tap downtown Saturday, Sept. 18 as part of the Potsdam Chamber of Commerce’s Fall Celebration.

This will be the second year the Fall Celebration is being staged. The event was started in 2019 but was canceled in 2020 due to COVID concerns.

"Fall Celebration came in strong in 2019. It was a brand new event that featured a lot of great activities for the community. COVID-19 has thrown us all a lot to handle in the last 19 months and we're doing the best we can,” said Kristin Stowell, Chamber executive director.

The 2021 celebration will feature a live music and other activities but will be a smaller affair compared to the 2019 event.

“This year, we will miss the Ives Park activities, brunch and Oktoberfest tent, but are confident that we will safely welcome community members to our businesses. Bringing in sidewalk performances and featuring the products and services that our businesses are offering feels like a great way to spread the celebration around Potsdam. We look forward to seeing the outcome and revisiting some of the 2019 ideas in 2022,” Stowell said.

Potsdam businesses will be open with special incentives and sales all day. Those participating include Brick & Mortar Music, Maple Run Emporium, Treasures Cove, Evans & White, Isle of You, Yum Yum, Willow Tree Florist, North Country Children’s Museum, Griff’s Beverage Center, MVP Sports, Jernabi Coffeehouse, Village Diner, Great Northern Screen Printing, Barking Dog Saloon, Agway, University Bookstore, Triple A Building Center and the Chamber.

Sidewalk music performances begin at noon with Maria Tartaglia performing in front of Foster the Plant.

Ben Todd will play at Brick & Mortar at 1 p.m., followed by Jen Kessler and Mike Welch at Maple Run Emporium at 2 p.m.

Another Roadside Attraction will perform 3 at Jernabi, followed by Clarkson A Cappella at Yum Yum’s at 4 p.m.

Lucas Benedict and Troy O’Brien will perform at 5 p.m. in front of Maxfields and Park Bros.

Merryweather will perform at Saint Larry’s at 6 p.m.

Other activities will be going on throughout Potsdam.

Trillium Wellness Center will offer free yoga in the park at 9 a.m. on Fall Island.

Potsdam Farmer’s Market will be going on from 9 a.m.-noon in Ives Park.

The Chamber will be offering fall giveaways from noon-6 p.m. at their offices on Market Street.

The Crane Latin Ensemble will cap the day’s event with a performance from 6-8 p.m. as part of the North Country Arts Festival in Ives Park.
