CANTON — Jan Couture will present the next North Country Civil War Round Table topic “Lincoln’s Avengers” on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. at the St. Lawrence County Historical Association (SLCHA), 3 E. Main St.
Couture is a retired teacher and Saranac town historian.
According to Couture, five men from Saranac were members of Lincoln’s Avengers — part of the Sixteenth New York Cavalry — which aided in the capture of John Wilkes Booth. “All five men came back and settled around here,” Couture said.
