NORWOOD -- You can learn rowing at the Grateful Oars Rowing Club’s annual Learn to Row Day at Norwood Beach 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 11. The event is free and open to anyone over the age of 14.

In Grateful Oars beginner crews, new rowers are taught by at least two experienced members. Following Learn to Row Day, prospective members will have a second chance to row with the club before deciding whether to join. Club members range from college age to over 70. Typically, members of the Grateful Oars are agile and reasonably fit working adults or retirees who row regularly one evening a week from May to October.

Members of the crew in the photo -- Pat Luppens and Ron Johnson, Potsdam, Bill Murphy, Canton, Peter Phelan, Potsdam, and Rich Rubsamen, Canton -- learned to row in retirement, but most members are of working age. Most row only recreationally, but the club does have crews that compete in regional regattas.

For information about Learn to Row Day or about the Grateful Oars Rowing Club, contact Peter Phelan at 265-7609.
