POTSDAM -- “If Beale Street Could Talk,” the 2018 USA film directed by Barry Jenkins is the next featured Cinema 10 film on Monday, Feb. 25.

Jenkins, who directed the movie “Moonlight,” brings to life the stunning prose of James Baldwin in “If Beale Street Could Talk.”

The film follows a Harlem woman as she attempts to clear her lover’s name after he is arrested for a crime he did not commit -- all before their baby is born.

An exploration of race and corruption, Beale Street “works as a timeless romance, a family drama, a legal thriller and a poignant social commentary. A great American novel has been turned into a great American film,” writes Richard Roeper, Chicago Sun Times.

The 119-minute film is rated R for language and some sexual content.

Cinema 10, the international and independent film series, aims to bring films to the area which are significant artistically, socially or politically, but which generally are not popular enough in the mass market to reach local theaters.

Films are shown at 7:15 p.m. Mondays at the Roxy Theater, 20 Main St. Season tickets are $45 or $35 for students and senior citizens. Individual tickets are $5.50 or $4.50 for students and seniors, available at the door.
