SLU Writers Series

CANTON: St. Lawrence University’s Writers Series will wrap up its 2018-19 season with author Ross Gay, 8 p.m., Sykes Common Room; free and open to the public; Gay is the author of three books: Against Which, Bringing the Shovel Down, and, Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude, winner of the 2015 National Book Critics Circle Award and the 2016 Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award; Writer Series is sponsored by St. Lawrence University’s Department of English and directed by Professor Natalia Singer; 315-229-5125.

Northridge Earthquake

POTSDAM: "Northridge Earthquake," Thursday seismology workshop, 3 p.m., Stowell Hall Room 131; hands-on activities dealing with the use of real seismic equipment and seismograms of local and distant earthquakes; class size is limited to 10 people, so participants are urged to arrive early, parking is also available in Lot 6.

CANTON: Cyber Seniors class on smartphones and tablets, 2:30-4 p.m., St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES, 40 W. Main St.; offered by county Office for the Aging, taught by St. Lawrence University students; classes are free to those 60 and older with little or no knowledge, as well as those who want to gain more knowledge of tablets, smartphones and computers; classes are offered in I & II part sessions, so registration will be for 2 classes to be sure topics are covered fully; must bring your own tablet or smartphone.
