POTSDAM – The Orchestra of Northern New York will perform a Mozart, Barber and Schumann Celebration featuring internationally acclaimed clarinetist Jon Manasse Saturday, Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m. in Hosmer Concert Hall, SUNY Potsdam.

In celebration of the 100th anniversary of Samuel Barber’s birth, the Orchestra will open the concert with his incomparable Adagio for Strings. One of his best known works, the Adagio is frequently played in times of remembrance and was played at the funerals of both Princess Grace of Monaco and Albert Einstein.

Mozart’s Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra, K. 622 will follow the Barber, featuring clarinetist Jon Manasse. Recognized for his inspiring artistry, uniquely glorious sound and charismatic performing style, Manasse’s current season is highlighted by return performances with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra and debuts with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Erie Philharmonic and others.

After a brief intermission, The Orchestra, in honor of the 200th anniversary of Robert Schumann’s birth, will present his Symphony No. 4 in D Minor.

Immediately following the concert there will be a reception at Julian’s Restaurant, located 38 Market St., Potsdam. The reception is open to the public and admission is free ($10 suggested donation). The reception will feature hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar provided by Julian’s. Jon Manasse will make an appearance to sign CDs after the concert.

Concert tickets are available in Potsdam at Northern Music & Video and the CPS Box Office at SUNY Potsdam, and in Canton at the St. Lawrence University’s Brewer Bookstore and the Pear Tree.
