EDWARDS – The Grasse River Players will present the melodrama “Double Take at Beatrice’s Boarding House or Things Ain’t Always What They Seem,” at the Edwards Opera House, Friday, Aug. 27 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 28 at 3 p.m.
Beatrice, the young, beautiful (but somewhat longwinded) owner of Beatrice's Boarding House is in distress. If business doesn't pick up soon, the honorable establishment will have to close its doors forever. If our poor heroine loses her abode, she and her closest friends will find themselves on the town's streets.
Luther Swett, the cad, not only wants the boarding house, but has his eyes on the beautiful Beatrice.
Beatrice has a group of daffy boarders- deaf, cranky, ugly, you name it. To save the boarding house from the clutches of Luther Swett, she decides to do a talent show.
This is an audience participation evening of comedy for the entire family - booing, hissing and cheering are encouraged.
This melodrama is unique because it has a talent show within it. Added musical attractions include The Sweet Adelines on Friday and fiddler Don LaBarge, guitarist/vocalist Lita Paczak and The Veils of the Nile on Saturday.
Tickets will be sold at the door. $6 for adults and $3 for children 12 and younger
The Edwards Opera House is located on the second floor at 161 Main St. Info: www.edwardsoperahouse.org or 562-8213.
