GOUVERNEUR — There will be no fairs in the North Country this year. The Gouverneur & St. Lawrence County Fair has officially been cancelled.

The announcement was made on the fair Facebook page Tuesday.

The statement said”

“Well, we held out as long as we could, but regrettably the Board had to make the tough decision to cancel the 2020 Gouverneur & St. Lawrence County Fair which was scheduled for August 4th-9th. Given the uncertainty of the wave of the pandemic, along with what safety metrics will be required by Public Health at the time of our event, we feel this is the best decision for the health and safety of our supporters, volunteers and the North Country.

“All events scheduled for this year’s fair will be postponed until 2021. The Lonestar Concert will be rescheduled for Tuesday night of the 2021 Fair. For those that have purchased tickets, your seats are still good for 2021. If you would prefer a refund please contact us. Same reserved seating can’t be guaranteed if re-purchased next year.

“We are checking on the possibility of still holding the NY Sire Stakes and some limited Youth Exhibits. Watch our webpage and Facebook for any scheduling that may occur.

“This has certainly been an unprecedented year so far. Hopefully, things will be back to normal soon. We appreciate everyone’s support and we look forward to seeing all of you at the 2021 Fair!”

Fairs in nearby Franklin and Jefferson counties have also be canceled.
