CANTON -- To celebrate September as Hunger Action Month, GardenShare invites everyone in the North Country and beyond to be part of a local solution by running, walking, biking, skating, or strolling in the annual Fight Hunger 5K Walk/Run.
Planning is underway for a responsible return to an in-person outdoor event on Sunday, Sept 19, at the Remington Trail in Canton. Sign-in will begin at 12:30 p.m. the walk/run at 1 p.m. Registration for the event is $25 per person. Register today at www.runsignup.com/fighthunger5k.
Each registration is a donation to support GardenShare’s work to ensure a robust local food system and address issues of food justice, income inequality, and racial equity. The first 150 registrants will receive a reusable Fight Hunger 5K tote bag. Participants are encouraged to invite family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers to help fight hunger as 5K walkers/runners or as sponsors.
Organizers are closely monitoring COVID data and guidance; safety guidelines at the event may include a requirement to wear masks while congregating outside. Remote participation is welcome for those more comfortable with that option.
GardenShare is a locally led, volunteer-driven nonprofit organization that works to promote a local food system that ensures food security for all St. Lawrence County residents. The annual Fight Hunger 5K raises money to support GardenShare programs that address those issues. Learn more at www.GardenShare.org.
