MASSENA – Free ski lessons, guided ski tours and guided snowshoe walks are available, as well as free ski and snowshoe rentals, at Nicandri Nature Center.
The groomed trails are available for use seven days a week, even when the center is not open.
A kiosk at the start of the trails near the parking lot provides a map of the trails.
“There are six miles of trails groomed for skiing and snowshoeing. Trails range in length from 2 mile to 1.5 mile loops, allowing you to choose how far you want to go. Trails are open dawn to dusk daily and there is no fee to use the trails,” she said.
“Nature Center staff will help outfit everyone and give mini lessons to start you out, so no need to be nervous if it's your first time,” said Executive Director Tracy Thomas.
Equipment loans are available whenever the center is open and there is snow. Cross country skis are available to fit toddler to adults, and there are pull sleds for younger children. Snowshoes are also available for all ages.
Current hours are 9-5 on Wednesday-Sunday. The center is also open during school breaks. Ski lessons, guided snowshoe walks, and guided ski tours are available on weekends. Call (315) 705-5022 or check Facebook for scheduling.
School classes and other groups can also book skiing and snowshoeing adventures by calling to reserve a slot.
Nicandri Nature Center is located at 19 Robinson Bay Rd, Massena.
