POTSDAM -- Former Ugandan child soldier Ricky Richard Anywar will speak on "Rebuilding a War-Ravaged Community in Northern Uganda" at Clarkson University on Tuesday, July 3.

Anywar will share his experiences helping to rehabilitate, re-integrate, and empower orphaned youth, children and young mothers and building a sustainable community in Pader, northern Uganda, which was devastated by Joseph Kony's Lord's Resistance Army.

Anywar's talk will be from 10-11:30 a.m. in Bertrand H. Snell Hall (hill campus) Room 330. Light refreshments will be provided.

Anywar is founder and executive director of Friends of Orphans (FRO) in Uganda, which works to reintegrate child soldiers into their home communities, train internally displaced persons in conflict management and resolution, increase food production, and foster sustainable development through enterprise.

Clarkson University is working with FRO to help establish a community-based radio station in Pader. As part of the School of Business' global business programs, a group of Clarkson students visited FRO and the site for the proposed radio station in May.

Anywar is the recipient of several awards, including the Harriet Tubman Freedom Award from Free the Slaves, and the Humanitarian Award from World of Children for his outstanding work in rebuilding his community. He has been recognized by the International Research Exchange Board for his accomplishments.
