BRASHER FALLS – The Tri-Town Winter Carnival continues with a whole host of activities designed to beat cabin fever and celebrate the season through Sunday, Feb. 12.
A 2012 Tri-Town Winter Carnival Button, featuring this year’s theme “The Wild, Wild West,” will get you into all of the events, including a craft fair, fireworks and frying pan throwing.
Friday, features a spaghetti dinner at the American Legion at 4 p.m., a talent show sponsored by the St. Lawrence Central Yearbook club from 6 to 8 p.m. at the elementary school, and fireworks at 9 p.m. in the school soccer field.
Musical entertainment Friday includes Backdraft at the Pit Stop Pub in Winthrop from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. and Karaoke at The Jug in North Lawrence beginning at 9 p.m.
On Saturday, the day starts early with registration for the snowmobile drag races on the river adjacent to Co. Rt. 53 in Helena beginning at 8 a.m. The races run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
There will also be a poker ski and snowshoe run from 8:30 to 10 a.m., an Indoor Yard and Bake Sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the municipal building in Winthrop, and Snowflake Craft Fair and cake auction at the American Legion from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., where prizes will be awarded for the ski run at 1 p.m. and the parade at 4 p.m.
The parade lines up at 10 a.m. at the elementary school and it begins at 11 a.m. Throughout the day on Saturday, there will be a volleyball tournament and bed races at the Pit Stop Pub in Winthrop; the Kid’s Zone at the elementary school from 1 to 5 p.m. featuring Hilby the German Juggler and Mark Manski’s Birds of Prey, crafts, music and bounce houses; and a wine tasting at Spirits of Downtown along with a soothing chair massage.
Musical entertainment Saturday includes Ten Cent Green at the Pit Stop at 6 p.m. and karaoke at The Jug starting at 9 p.m. There will also be a Wild, Wild West costume party and contest at the Pit Stop from 9 to 11 p.m. with judging at 11. First prize is $250.
On Sunday, the morning starts with more snowmobile drags at 10 a.m, a kickball tournament at the North Lawrence baseball field from noon to 5 p.m., and tug-of-war, bed races, wheelbarrow races, barrel rolling contest, frying pan throwing and a Fire Truck Pull from noon to 5 p.m. at the Helena General Store.
A Chinese Auction will be held at the Winthrop American Legion from noon to 6 p.m.
The closing ceremony with dinner will begin at 5 p.m. at the American Legion. A video of the carnival will be shown.
