DeKalb Revitalization Committee holding community meeting Wednesday

DEKALB JUNCTION - The DeKalb Revitalization Committee is holding its first community meeting on Wednesday, March 29 at 7 p.m. at the DeKalb Volunteer Fire Department at 4323 US Highway 11.

This kickoff gathering is being held to gather ideas from residents on what changes they’d like to see in their community including appearance, developing more retail options (and jobs!), improving and expanding infrastructure and public resources, and providing more recreation and activities for families.

Since the start of the pandemic, many of DeKalb’s residents feel disconnected from each other and this committee seeks to create opportunities for neighbors to reconnect and work together to revitalize the town by capitalizing on its strengths - community pride, natural beauty, and location, location, location.

Despite being centered on Route 11 between Gouverneur and Canton, DeKalb’s downtown, like many rural towns, is fading. The committee aims to fix that with an army of committed volunteers to save the town and preserve its rich history.

The Town of DeKalb (established in 1806) is located in St. Lawrence County between the St. Lawrence River and the foothills of the Adirondacks, southwest of the county seat, Canton. It encompasses the hamlet of DeKalb Junction, the Village of Richville, and the hamlets of DeKalb, Kendrew, and Bigelow.
