The class “Starting with Sourdough” will be on Saturday, Jan. 23 from 1 to 3 p.m. Here is an opportunity to improve your baking skills from home. This class is ideal for individuals with no or introductory experience with any type of bread baking. The class will cover what sourdough is, how to tend the “starter” used to create the loaves, demonstrations of kneading along with tips for baking.

The session is available on a sliding scale, $0-30 so that participants pay what they can afford. The class will be filmed live and all questions are welcome.

The instructor for this session is Alexandra Brown, caretaker of River Road Farm. Alex has baked with sourdough starter for over a decade, both professionally and then as an active home hobby. The facilitator for this session is Flip Filippi Extension’s Local Food Program Leader in St. Lawrence County. Flip shares, “Using sourdough starter is an exciting way to harness the power of fermentation with the craft of baking, and this workshop is an ideal way to jumpstart your journey with these methods”.

Registration is required for the class. Reserve your spot via the events calendar at http://stlawrence.cce.cornell.edu/ or by contacting Cooperative Extension at (315) 379-9192, ext. 229 or harvestkitchen@cornell.edu. Once registered, all participants will be sent the hyperlink to join online. All registrants will receive the class recording along with a resource sheet to encourage future kitchen adventures.
