CANTON – A community Contra Dance will be held Friday, March 25 at the St. Mary's School Gymnasium on Powers Street.

The caller for the dance will be Beth Robinson and live music will be provided by Gretchen Koehler and Friends. The dance will begin at 7:30 p.m., with a half-hour of beginner-level instruction available for newcomers prior to the dance at 7 p.m.

The dance is jointly organized by TAUNY, the Sustainable Living Project (SLP), and the students of St. Lawrence University's Greenhouse. Contra dancing features dancing in "sets" of about a dozen partners.

Dancers interact with their partner, and everyone else in the set too, as they dance with easy walking steps to energetic, live music.

Suggested donation is $10-12 for the general public, under 16 free, $5 for students, and $3 for SLU students whose various associations are financial sponsors of the event. To pre-register, contact contradance@ymail.com.

Attendees are requested to wear soft-soled shoes and bring drinking water. It is not required that you provide your own partner to dance.
