OGDENSBURG -- The Frederic Remington Art Museum’s 2019 College Student Juried Art Exhibition will open Saturday, March 2, with a free public reception from 2-4 p.m.

The public is invited to come and meet the artists at the reception, see their excellent work, and have some fun at the Museum.

The College Student Juried Art Exhibit is a new offering in the Museum’s roster of annual exhibitions of contemporary artwork. It joins a Members’ Juried Art Exhibit, a New York State Juried Art Exhibit, an International Juried Art Exhibit, and annual Elementary and Middle & High School Art Exhibits featuring the work of students in North Country schools.

The new exhibition was open to students at four area colleges and universities: Clarkson University, St. Lawrence University, SUNY Plattsburgh, and SUNY Potsdam.

For this inaugural exhibition, the Remington Museum received 110 images submitted by 42 artists.

Juror Ginger Ertz selected 62 works to be in the exhibition, including paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures, mixed media works, and time-based works in video and virtual reality.

“Award-winning arts educator Ginger Ertz did an exceptional job selecting art that showcases the excellent work being done in our regional college and university art departments. We’re pleased to offer young artists the opportunity to experience the process of entering a juried show, and to see the work being done by their peers at other area colleges and universities. I think that visitors to the show will be impressed by the range and quality of the work included.”

Juror Ginger Ertz is a retired museum educator.

She worked at the Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College for over 15 years, and at the Brattleboro Museum & Art Center in Vermont before that.

A sculptor, drawer, and painter, Ginger holds the MFA degree, has taught art classes in a variety of media to children and adults, and has shown her work extensively in the Capital Region and beyond, including MassMoCA, the Islip Art Museum, the Brattleboro Museum, the Arts Center of the Capital Region, the Albany Institute of History & Art, and the Lake George Arts Project, among others.

She has juried many exhibitions, including several high school regionals, a college regional at the Saratoga Arts Center, and the National Exhibition of Artists with Disabilities.

Ginger is the recipient of a 2009 New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship.

She lives in Niskayuna, NY with her husband Charles Steckler and their cat Kasha.

Many of the works on display in the Remington exhibit will be for sale.

One third of the proceeds benefits the Frederic Remington Art Museum, and two thirds go to the artist.

Mann, Allison Medley, Brian Menia, Liam Morton, Emily Morton, Lynda Mussen, Rebecca Nielsen, Joerelyn Ollet, Joellen Quilla, Sky Ratcliffe, Jackie Reiss, Jessica C. Rigby, Erika Snyder, Morgan Sychtysz, Jackie Ta, Nick Trace, Joshua Trombley, Dennon Walantus, Anqi Wang, Devin P. White, Holly Yandow, Margeunsol Yang, Yidi Zhang.

The exhibition will be on display through Sunday, March 31, 2019.

The next opportunity for artists to enter a juried exhibit at the Museum is in the spring, for the 2019 Members’ Juried Art Exhibit.

That exhibit is open to any member of the Museum; an artist who is not yet a Museum member may join when they enter their submissions.
