CANTON -- Cornell Cooperative Extension will offer an evening program about keeping goat herds healthy on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. at the Extension Learning Farm classroom, 2043B State Highway 68.

Many goat health issues can be avoided by good management, a good relationship with your veterinarian and taking preventive measures like vaccinations and regular hoof trimming, said an Extension press release.

The program will be taught by Betsy Hodge, livestock educator, and will include how to tell when your goat is sick, when to call the vet, things that can go wrong, items to have on hand.

At the end of the lecture there will be a discussion to share things farmers have found challenging and their solutions.

The program will finish with a trip out into the barn to look at the Extension Learning Farm goats. Those that want to see foot trimming can stay and try it as well.

Meat and dairy goat issues will be covered.
