POTSDAM – Cinema 10 continues its fall 2010 season on Monday, Nov. 1 with a showing of “To the Sea,” or “Alamar” a 2010 film directed by Pedro González-Rubio about 5-year-old’s developing relationship with his father.
Natan is the 5-year-old son of Jorge and Roberta who have been separated for several years.
Roberta has taken the boy back to her home in Italy, but Jorge wishes to expose his son to his native Mexico, its jungles, and Mayan ancestry.
Natan hates the boat trip, hates being away from his mother, and he is uncomfortable with his father, at least at the start.
But the voyage is slow, and the time Natan shares with his father becomes a deep exploration of paternal love. As David Lewis of the San Francisco Chronicle observes, “their happiness is infectious.”
Films are shown on Mondays at 7:15 p.m. in the Roxy Theater in Potsdam.
Tickets are $4.50 general/$35 season or $3.50 student/senior/$25 season.
