WADDINGTON -- The Charlton Brothers Band will perform as part of the Waddington Summer Concert Series 7 p.m. July 22 at Island View Park.
In case of inclement weather, the concert will be moved to the Old Town Hall on Main Street.
Ed and Brad Charlton have been performing music professionally since their early teens, having followed in their father’s footsteps as early as 1965.
At that time, their dad Harold (more commonly known as “Curly”) had decided to re-enter the round and square dance arena, a calling (no pun intended) which he had perfected during his many years of relative success in the business. He retired and the boys carried on the tradition.
As the years went by, music changed and Ed and Brad adapted accordingly, performing newer country tunes and adding a lot of classic R&R tunes to their repertoire. As the mid-80’s approached, their younger brother, Wayne, was drafted into the band as the drummer.
In the late 90’s the band disbanded due to burn-out. In 2009, they decided to take another run at it. Although you may hear them playing modern day country, or even some harder driving rock tunes, they can still belt out the Traditional Country Hits and Classic Rock ‘n Roll tunes from the 50’s to present.
The Friday night concerts are free and run from 7 to 9 p.m. unless otherwise noted. Those attending should bring a lawn chair.
Future concerts in the series include:
• July 29: Scott Shipley - folk and indie rock.
• Aug. 12: The Starlight - nine decades of music including Glenn Miller, Ink Spots, Lawrence Welk, Patsy Cline, Elvis.
• Aug. 19: Sweet Adelines and Canton Goldenaires - 6-8 p.m., four-part harmony, a cappella music and barbershop singing.
• Aug. 26: Acoustic Brothers - 6-8 p.m., classic rock, oldies.
• Sept. 2: Client 9 - 6-8 p.m., classic rock and country.
