CANTON -- The Canton Village Board of Trustees will hold a public hearing on the Zoom cloud conferencing platform Monday, April 27 at 6:30 p.m. to receive comment from village residents on the proposed village budget for 2020-21.

The budget will cover the fiscal year that begins June 1.

After the hearing the board is expected to convene a special meeting to take action on the proposed village budget.

The proposed budget for 2020-21 will feature a 1.73% increase in the tax levy and a .31 percent decrease in the property tax rate over the current year's fiscal plan.

Village residents will see their tax rate decrease to $10.46 per $1,000 of assessed property value. The rate for the current year is $10.48 per $1,000 of assessed value.

Total general fund appropriations proposed for 2020-21 are $3,694,453, compared to $3,612,131 in 2019-2020, a $82,321 or 2.28 percent increase.

The tax levy for the coming year will be $1,752,888, which is up from the current year's levy of $1,723,130, a 1.73% increase (just under the 1.78 percent state tax cap).

The public is invited to comment during the public hearing and to view or listen to the special meeting by any of the following means:
