CANTON – The Canton United Methodist Church will host a dinner theater production of “Virgil and the City Slickers” on Oct. 18 and 19 at 5 p.m., and Oct. 20 at 2 p.m.
The play, written by Eddie McPherson, produced by special arrangement with Heuer Publishing LLC of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, tells the story of the Sludges, simple country people who enjoy the rural trappings of gardens and green space.
Enter Jennifer (Emily Fecketter) and Trish (Salma Moumen), two highbrow city slickers whose car broke down and are in desperate need a of a telephone. As the girls hang around waiting for a ride, the country bumpkins warm up to the “city folks” who try to help the family with their problems.
Will Bertha Mae (Heather Liebfred) and Ellard (Cole Madore) stop fighting and get married? Has Papa Hooper (David Crowell) discovered a miracle growing tonic? What happened to Mama Sludge’s (Vania Falen) hair? And where is that mooing coming from?
Once Jennifer’s fiancé, Bobby (Rob Larabee) finally shows up to take her home things go from bad to worse and both country and city folk learn some valuable lessons.
Other cast members include Derrick Conway, Jennifer Blewett, Penny Stacy, Charles Romano, Daisy Liebfred, Elias Nelson, and Nathan Lyndaker.
The dinner theatre will feature meat or veggie lasagna, salad, drinks and dessert of brownies and ice cream. A dessert buffet will be offered after the Oct. 20 show.
Admission is $15 for adults. Children 12 and younger pay $6.
