MORRISTOWN -- The Black Lake Ice Fishing Derby, “Bringing it Back to the Lake,” will be held Jan. 25 starting at 6 a.m.
The pike-only event is hosted by the Black Lake Fish & Game Association Inc. and will feature a $1,000 grand prize.
Minimum length for catch is 26 inches.
NYS Fish & Wildlife Regulations must be obeyed. All contestants must register before fishing
Adult registration costs $15. Youth (16 and younger) pay $10.
Register at the Club House, Black Lake Marine or Chapman’s & Fish Creek Bait & Tackle.
Grand prize Black Lake pike must be caught and entered on the ice at the following shacks: Rollaway Bay, Chapman’s Sport Shop and the Black Lake Marine ‘Red Barn’ from 3 p.m. until closing.
The Club House is for entry of open boundary pike only, from 4 p.m. to close. Open boundary pike entered at the Club House are not eligible for the $1,000 grand prize.
There will be four separate $200 cash prizes for adult division winners, one for each station; and four separate $100 cash prizes for youth division winners, one for each station.
All prizes awarded by luck of the draw.
A special bonus on-ice card drawing will be held. Enter an additional 26-inch pike at any station on the ice and receive a half a playing card. The winning card for each station will be drawn at the club, Rollaway Bay, Chapman’s Sport Shop and the Black Lake Marine ‘Red Barn,’ from 3 p.m. until closing for an additional prize that day.
The clubhouse will be open from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, and 7 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Jan. 25 for registration.
The Association will sell raffle tickets and serve food at the clubhouse throughout the day.
Additional raffles and drawings include:
• Derby Raffle -- complete ice fishing package including Eskimo Mako 43cc ice auger, Quickfish2 Shack, jet sled, Mr. Heater, 5 HT 500xp tip-ups, HT jig pole, ice scoop and bucket. Tickets can be purchased at the club, weigh-in stations, participating business and registration locations.
• Special bonus category raffles for qualifying participants -- Volunteer Fire & Rescue $50, Active Duty Military & Veterans $50, Trap Team Members $50, Women $50, Seniors 65 & Over $50. Entry included with registration purchase. Must enter at clubhouse.
Registration fees are non-refundable. If derby is cancelled due to weather, the association will reschedule.
