Believe NNY is planning the 2nd Annual Survival & Sacrifice in Rensselaer Falls May 18

RENSSELAER FALLS – The organization Believe NNY is planning the 2nd Annual Survival & Sacrifice: Life Behind the Badge for Saturday, May 18, from 9 a.m.-11 p.m. at the Rensselaer Falls Fire Department, 424 Rensselaer St.

Survival & Sacrifice is an event envisioned by Believe NNY to educate the community about PTSD and cancer among emergency services members.

Seminars, workshops, refreshments, lunch and live music are planned.

The schedule includes:

• 9-11:30 a.m. Rescue Jack - Vehicle Stabilization Hands-On Session with Tony MacIntyre of Jerome Fire; first 30 (paid) registrants for hands-on portion, others will be spectators; full turn-out gear required.

• 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Providing Care and Service for those with Disabilities with Nicole Harris from the Office of Fire Prevention & Control.

• 12:15-12:45 p.m. Lunch (sold by Rensselaer Falls Fire Department)

• 1-3:30 p.m. Surviving the Job with Brian McQueen, FASNY past director/NVFC board member/occupational cancer survivor.

• 3:30-5:30 p.m. PTSD in the Volunteer Emergency Services with Kevin Davison, Canadian Country Music Artist.

• 6-8 p.m. Music from the opening band, the String Busters.

• 8-11 p.m. Tribute to First Responders with Kevin Davison, Canadian Country Music Artist.

Survival & Sacrifice is open to the public.

There is a $5 per session registration fee; attendees registering for three events or more at $15 will receive the new 2019 Believe NNY Challenge Coin.

Believe NNY is an assistance program for firefighters, EMS, auxiliary members who are fighting a life threatening illness like cancer in the counties of Jefferson, Lewis, St. Lawrence, Franklin, Hamilton, and Essex.
