Bed races, running contests, quilt show highlight Colton Winterfest Jan. 27 through 29

COLTON – From bed races and foot races contests to a quilt show and a health/craft fair, there's something for everyone at the Colton Township Winterfest, Friday, Jan. 27 through Sunday, Jan. 29.

The entire community has worked together to make the weekend a success; area students are providing assistance throughout the weekend's activities.

Residents are asked to turn on their holiday lights over the weekend, in celebration of Winterfest.

Here is the Winterfest schedule; activities are free unless otherwise noted:

• All weekend: Colton Pierrepont Central School (CPCS) lobby display of "snow creations" photographs from Winterfest contest; donations of non-perishable foods will be accepted at Colton-Pierrepont Central School and Colton and South Colton post offices (during regular hours) to benefit local food banks.

• Friday, Jan. 27: 7 p.m.-9 p.m.: "Jack Frost" movie is presented in the CPCS auditorium by the Booster's Club. Nominal charge.

• Saturday, Jan. 28: Pancake Breakfast at High Falls Lodge Masonic Temple - Main Street $7 adults, $6.50 seniors, 7-11 a.m. or until all are served; Colton 10 Miler Foot Race - starts at CPCS at 9 a.m., ends at town hall, popular hill course designed by Dan Dominie promises to keep racers warm, awards to first five places, 379-9290; 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Health Fair - CPCS, Organizer: Mary Long 262-2947; 9 a.m.-3 p.m. craft fair - CPCS, area crafters offer a wide variety of items to choose from, Grace Hawley organizer 262-2439; refreshments available-senior class at concession stand in CPCS lobby; 10 a.m.-2 p.m. informal family ski day by the Friends of HFSP at Higley Flow State Park, free light refreshments provided at a camp fire by the parking lot; 10 a.m.-dusk snowshoeing at Catamount Lodge, lodge will be open for tours, refreshments available, snowshoes available for those not having their own, hiking if no snow, State Rt. 56 south of South Colton; 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Quilt Show - Zion Episcopal Church, town hall, Hepburn Library, and Catamount Lodge, antique quilts will be featured at the library and the quilts of Mary Holmes Fisk, grandmother of Mary Jane Watson and Bethany Fisk Manchester will be on display at Catamount, free, for more information contact: Lorraine Gowing 379-9392; 10-11 a.m. Story Hour-Hepburn Library, sponsored by the library, presented by Peggy Horton; 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Silent Auction antiques and collectibles, at Three Falls Antiques on State Rt. 56, S. Colton, Judy Brassard; 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. sledding, crafts and cookie decorating at the school gymnasium lobby sponsored by the PTSA; 4-7 p.m. All You Can Eat Spaghetti Dinner - CPCS cafeteria, take outs available - $7/Adults $3/Children 4-12, under 4 free, sponsored by Colton Pierrepont Senior Citizens' Club; 1:30 p.m. Bed Races- at The Amvets, refreshments available, awards, sponsored by Amvets Post 262, beds provided-bring your team, sign up at the Amvets Post; 6 p.m. St. Patrick's Church services; 7:30 p.m. Hollowbodies performs - sponsored by the Colton-Pierrepont Teachers'Association, CPCS auditorium - admission - $5/family, $3/individual.

• Sunday, Jan. 29: Pancake Breakfast - CPCS cafeteria, 8 a.m.-noon, $5/adult $3/children, Sponsored by Altar Rosary Society; 9 a.m. church service, Wesleyan Methodist Church; 9:30 a.m.; church service, Zion Episcopal Church; 9:45 a.m. church service, Colton United Methodist Church; 8:30 a.m. church service, St. Patrick's Church; 10 a.m. to dusk, free snowshoeing at Catamount Lodge on maintained and marked trails, free snowshoes available; 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Silent Auction antiques and collectibles, at Three Falls Antiques; 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Quilt Show - Zion Episcopal Church, Town Hall, Hepburn Library, and Catamount Lodge; 1 p.m. foul shooting contest at CPCS, students of all ages, awards given; 1-4 p.m. Class of 2016 Skating at the New Pavilion in South Colton, refreshments will be available and music will be played.
