POTSDAM - The “Basics of Beekeeping and Beyond" workshop will be held Saturday, March 4, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., at the Cornell Cooperative Extension learning farm, 2043B NY-68 on a preregistration basis due to limited space.
Cornell Cooperative Extension of St. Lawrence County has partnered with members of the Local Living Venture's Bee Discussion Group to create a community-led workshop that shares the basics to get started.
There will be a morning session of presentations on various topics by local beekeepers and an optional afternoon session for more advanced knowledge.
For those considering keeping bees this Spring, helpful information will be shared about how to get started. Additionally, mentorship opportunities with local beekeepers will be highlighted.
Topics to be covered include beekeeping resources, terminology, equipment and gear, biology, pests, diseases and how to start a hive this Spring.
There is a $10-40 sliding scale fee for registration. Class size is limited; attendees will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Attendees are asked to bring a bag lunch if staying for the afternoon session.
