NORWOOD — The next two concerts at the Norwood Village Green Concert Series will feature the All-Star Big Band with Ronnie Leigh and the traditional and original JudeoSpanish melodies of Aviva Chernick.
The All-Star Big Band with Ronnie Leigh will perform Thursday, July 7, at 7 p.m.
After a one-week hiatus due to Fourth of July festivities, the Norwood Village Green Concert Series will return to present the All-Star Big Band with special guest Ronnie Leigh.
The All-Star Big Band under the direction of Wally Siebel is a Concert Series favorite, said a series press release.
This year, the band will be accompanied by singer Ronnie Leigh. His multiple-octave vocal range, engaging stage presence, and singular style set him apart, with his love of the music always coming across. Whether he’s interpreting Monk, Al Jarreau, or Duke, Leigh has proven himself exceptional time and time again, the series said.
On Sunday, July 10, at 7 p.m., the Norwood Village Green Concert Series will continue its 49th annual season with a performance by Aviva Chernick.
Chernick will be accompanied by the textural, reverberant guitar of Joel Schwartz, the exotic groove of Justin Gray on bass and bass veena, the virtuosic Persian hand percussion of Naghmeh Farahmand, and the rich, layered vocals of Maryem Tollar.
The series has worked for several years to bring Aviva to Norwood and the audience will enjoy her traditional and original melodies with rich poetry in Judeo Spanish (known as Ladino), as well as some additional treasures in Hebrew, the series said.
