CANTON — The St. Lawrence County Historical Association will feature a well-known aerial photographer as the subject of the next Patricia Harrington Carson Brown Bag Lunch Speaker Series talk on Nov. 17.
The presentation, “Dwight Church: The Man Behind the Camera,” by his granddaughter Lamar Bliss, will be from 12-1 p.m.
Church was a familiar figure in downtown Canton for decades. He is perhaps best known for his aerial photographs, or “Skyviews,” taken from the 1920s until his death in 1974.
What many people don’t know is that Church was also a devout Christian, prolific letter writer, and an advocate for civil and environmental rights- views that were not considered mainstream at the time.
In this special presentation, Bliss will share personal stories, photographs, and new material from SLCHA’s collection that reveal the depth of this beloved Canton resident.
The event is free but donations will be accepted.
Registration is not required.
