Drug take back slated in Gouverneur

GOUVERNEUR — State Senator Patty Ritchie is reminding people she will host a “Drive-Thru Drug Take Back” event on Tuesday, Nov. 30 in Gouverneur.

The event is being held in an effort to help people clean out their medicine cabinets and in turn, protect the environment and improve community safety, Ritchie said.

The event is being made possible with assistance from the Gouverneur Police Department and will take place from 12-2 p.m. at the Gouverneur Community Center (4673 State Route 58).

“The holiday season is now here and that means more people in our homes—as well as more opportunities for medications to end up in the wrong hands,” said Senator Patty Ritchie.

“I am hopeful people will take advantage of the opportunity to responsibly clean out their medicine cabinets through my ‘Drive-Thru Drug Take Back’ event on Tuesday. Taking this small step helps protect the environment, as well as public health and safety.”

At the event, any unused or expired medications will be accepted, with the exception of needles, and syringes. Those who cannot attend can visit www.ritchie.nysenate.gov for information on other locations where prescription drugs can safely be disposed of.
