North Country This Week
CANTON – The Village of Canton has officially acquired a street running between Walgreens and SeaComm Federal Credit Union on East Main Street.
Following a public hearing on Wednesday, Nov. 16, and adopting a negative SEQR declaration, village leaders approved the conveyance from St. Lawrence University.
Town Councilman Bob Washo asked the village board if a name has been chosen for the new public street.
A name has not been designated with the possibility of reaching out to the public for street name suggestions.
The street is partially paved and in use for Walgreens and SeaComm customers.
“Said property shall become and be developed and used as a public street of the Village of Canton,” the resolution reads.
Mayor Michael Dalton pointed out the street will create a second entrance and exit from the new salt and sand storage facility to be built off Stiles Avenue.
The conveyance of the parcel was defined in a letter to Dalton and Village Attorney Gerald Ducharme, dated Oct. 14, 2022, from attorney Andrew Silver, representing the University.
