St. Lawrence County's unemployment rate rose to 10.7% as an additional 2,400 people received unemployment benefits in June.
The Department of Labor says the county went from 39,400 people employed in the county last month, down from 40,400 the same month last year.
DOL says the unemployment rate in June 2019 was 5.3% with 2,300 people qualifying for benefits.
To the east in Franklin County, the unemployment rate rose from 4.4% in June 2019 to 11.1% last month. DOL says 2,200 people qualified for unemployment last month, up from 900 in June 2019. The county had 17,900 people employed last month and 18,700 the same month last year, DOL said.
To the west in Jefferson County, the unemployment rate went from 4.6% in June 2019 to 11.2% last month. DOL reports 4,800 people in the county qualified for unemployment last month, up from 2,000 in June 2019. The county had 38,300 people employed last month, down from 42,800 in June 2019.
