St. Lawrence County Soil & Water offering cost-share program for no-till seeding

CANTON — The St. Lawrence County Soil & Water Conservation District (SLC SWCD) has disposed of their no-till grain drill last spring. To continue to offer assistance, they are offering a no-till/inter-seeder cost-share program to help offset the costs of renting or implementing no-till or inter-seeding methods by other means. The cost-share rate is $19/acre, for a maximum of 30 acres per accepted applicant.

Due to funding limitations, applicants’ fields will be ranked and selected for cost-share, based on a number of criteria including the primary use of equipment, seed type, method, and field properties and risks such as proximity to waterbody, highly erodible soils, and slope.

Interested applicants should fill out an application available at www.slcswcd.org and email completed applications to jevonnah@slcswcd.org. Alternatively, call their office at 315-386-3582 and apply over the phone.

Applications must be received by April 23, 2021 to allow staff to rank and select sites in time for producers to be able to do a successful spring planting. Ideal planting times for spring cool season plants are May 1-15 and for warm season plants June 15-20. If there are still funds available, applications will be accepted for a fall planting. Fall planting applications will need to be in by July 20, 2021 for ranking.
