St. Lawrence County gained 300 jobs since April 2018 and saw the unemployment rate drop from 5.8% in April 2018 to 5.2% last month, according to figures released by the state Department of Labor.
There were 2,500 people receiving benefits in April 2018 and 2,300 last month.
There were about 40,900 people working in April 2018 compared with about 41,300 last month, DOL said.
To our east in Franklin County, the rate fell to 4.9% last month from 5.9% in April last year. They had 1,000 people receiving benefits last month and 1,100 the same month in 2018. They had 18,400 people employed in April 2019 and 18,200 in April last year, DOL said.
To the west in Jefferson County, the unemployment rate fell to 53% last month from 6.1% in April 2018. They had 2,300 people receiving unemployment last month and 2,700 in April 2018. There were 41,200 people employed in the county last month and 41,100 in April 2018, DOL said.
These figures are not adjusted for seasonal variation and some figure do not add to totals due to rounding, DOL said.
