POTSDAM -- Tim Burkum of Burkum’s Repair Shop has purchased Scott’s Auto Electric from owner Jim Scott.
Scott’s inventory and service, from his shop at 575 Bagdad Rd., is being moved to Burkum’s shop at 259 Heath Rd.
Burkum said his general auto repair shop is suited to take over Scott’s business of repairing and rebuilding automotive starters, alternators and generators.
Scott closed his business last summer in order to retire, without anyone to purchase the business or its stock and equipment.
“Jim and I have been friends for a number of years,” Burkum said, “and he came to me, and we came to terms” over the course of a few months.
Without Scott’s electrical rebuilds, Burkum said, “you would have to go to Lowville or Plattsburgh for rebuilds, so I wanted to keep it going here.”
Scott also emphasized that he sells Interstate batteries, the revolving lights used by plow trucks and volunteer firefighters, and makes hydraulic hoses.
